Henry Cavill teases Season 2 of The Witcher in Instagram message

In a New Year message posted to his Instagram, Henry Cavill confirmed that season two of Netflix’s The Witcher will soon begin pre-production. Netflix ordered season two of The Witcher before the first season even aired. Further updates, however, have been lacking until Cavill’s post.

Speaking to his 10 million followers, he said, “Hello everybody, I’m back. I have been enjoying my Christmas break, perhaps a little too much at some points, but now it is back to work. Pre-production will be starting very shortly on Witcher season two. I see that you’ve all enjoyed Witcher season one, thank you very much for that, and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ll be giving you updates on here as time goes on.”

The update is great news for fans of the show, who helped make The Witcher Netflix’s second most popular show of 2019 behind only Stranger Things. The adaptation of the novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and popular video games series has generated a passionate following despite receiving mixed reviews from critics.

Season one focused on three primary characters, their stories set on different timelines until they all converged toward the end of the season. A witcher (a monster hunter created by magic) called Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), Yenner the mage (Anya Chalotra), and Princess Ciri of Cintra (Freya Allen) spent the season careening into one another’s paths, as the kingdom of Nilfgaard looms as an existential threat to the continent. As season two looms, there are many questions and challenges facing the trio now that Geralt has finally caught up with destiny by finding Ciri, and Yennefer’s fate is yet unknown.

The new DC Universe (DCU) from James Gunn and Peter Safran will begin next month with the arrival of the animated TV series Creature Commandos. The DCU is nearly a complete reset from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), the previously shared universe from 2013 to 2023. In an interview with IGN, Gunn clarified that everything seen or spoken about in Creature Commandos or any project released after that is canon in the DCU. However, there is one major exception.

Gunn said, “The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League … which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker." The scene in question happens at the end of Peacemaker season 1, when the Justice League, including Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s Flash, are late arrivals to the fight against the Butterflies.
