Roku is introducing three models, priced to sell at $59.99, $79.99 and $99.99. Each model supports HD streaming and includes built-in wireless. The $79.99 and $99.99 models support 1080p streaming — a feature not seen in the $99 Apple TV.

All three models support playback of a growing collection of channels such as Amazon Video on Demand, Netflix streaming, MLB.tv, Pandora and more. Additionally, you can copy videos onto a hard drive or keychain drive and attach them to the USB port on the Roku XDS.

The lineup is going head to head with Apple TV, the Boxee Box and Google TV. Roku is hoping to entice customers to its newest units which are even smaller than previous models. While we haven’t gotten our hands on these new models to directly compare them, Roku has at least one clear advantage over Apple TV. Roku allows you to view a variety of  third-party content channels, while the Apple TV is limited to the content partners Apple has coded right into its box.

The new Roku boxes will be available on the company’s Website starting Thursday morning.

Amazon simplifies its lineup with the new Fire TV Stick HD
A promo image of the Amazon Fire TV Stick HD.

It's a little hard to believe we've gone through most of 2024 without a new Amazon Fire TV Stick. That is, until now. The Fire TV Stick HD has been announced, with the $35 device reducing the Fire TV Stick lineup from four to three and in the process replacing the two oldest sticks in the family. The $40 Fire TV Stick and the $30 Fire TV Stick Lite will still be around while they're in stock. But after that, they're gone.

The other two current devices remain the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K, and the second-gen Fire TV Stick 4K Max, which we still consider to be the best Fire TV Stick to get.

What is Philo? Everything to know about the live TV streaming service
The Philo streaming app.

With the rise of streaming services, cutting the cord on cable TV is easier than ever. While the most popular streamers like Netflix and Max have gigantic catalogs of video on demand (VOD) content, they don't tend to offer much access to live programming. That's where live TV streaming services like Philo shine.

Philo delivers more than 70 live channels, including options like AMC, HGTV & Nickelodeon. It competes with other live streamers like Sling TV, providing a budget-friendly choice that doesn't sacrifice access to the shows you want to watch.
