The release of Google’s Android 15 is getting closer, so Samsung is understandably also nearing the release of One UI 7 for its mobile devices. According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, beta testing for One UI 7 could start in just a few days. They explain that testing will commence before the end of July or in early August.

As noted by Android Police, once everything is in order with One UI 7, Samsung is expected to announce its features and make the firmware available for its Galaxy S24 series smartphones in the U.S. and South Korea. Subsequent beta releases will likely be available in other regions a few weeks later.

Another recent report by Ice Universe suggested that Samsung’s upcoming One UI 7 update could be the most significant update yet. However, specific details about the new features included in this update have not been disclosed.

It is hoped that Samsung will focus on visual improvements and enhanced performance with this release. One UI has recently received a few updates, the most recent of which was a redesigned Quick Panel layout in One UI 6 in 2023.

Android 15 is expected to complete beta testing in the coming weeks and will gradually roll out to Android devices. This update will bring new features and improvements, including more accessible Bluetooth controls, partial screen sharing, a notification cooldown, improved PDF experiences, more reliable NFC, and satellite connectivity.

While Android 15 and One UI 7 will be closely linked, they may not be released simultaneously. The official release of One UI 7 is expected to occur a few days or weeks after Android 15 becomes available on supported Samsung devices.

Samsung confirms One UI 7 release date for first wave of Galaxy owners

The wait for Android 15 on Samsung smartphones will finally be over early next month. Samsung has announced that the highly-anticipated One UI 7 update will be released widely via the stable channel starting April 7 for Galaxy smartphone users.
In the first wave of rollout, the Galaxy S24 series phones, alongside Samsung’s current generation foldable — Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 — will be covered. It will eventually expand to older flagships, alongside a bunch of mid-range phones in the Galaxy A-series, as well.
In the coming weeks, One UI 7 will also land on the Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5 phones. On the tablet side, the Galaxy Tab S10 will be the early recipient, followed by the Galaxy Tab S9 series.

Samsung kicked off the beta-testing program in December last year, and in the past few weeks, the pool of devices has steadily expanded. One UI 7 brings a fresh design language to the phone, with a cleaner Home Screen, improved widgets, and more intuitive lock screen.
Leading the list of new features is the new Now Bar, which tracks important events and keeps users updated via a dedicated widget, right on the Lock Screen. AI is a huge part of the One UI 7 experience, riding under the Galaxy AI banner. Among them is a feature called AI Select, which is aware of the on-screen content, and based on what users highlight, it will offer actionable buttons.

For example, if there’s a ticket in the camera view, AI select can automatically surface one-tap controls such as adding it to the Calendar or showing the venue on Google Maps. Then there’s Writing Assist, which offers a handful of AI-powered facilities such as rewriting, summarization, and proofreading, working in the same vein as Writing Tools on Apple devices.
However, do keep in mind that not all One UI 7 features will be available across every compatible device. For example, the audio eraser feature, which can selectively erase noise from videos, will not go beyond phones older than the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Tab S10 duo, or the sixth-generation Samsung foldable phones. Similar is the situation with natural language search in the Settings app.

Samsung Galaxy S25 could get a major software overhaul sooner than expected

Earlier this week, a known tipster suggested Samsung might skip straight from One UI 7 to One UI 8, citing the delays that have plagued the current version of the software. Today, the first versions of One UI 8 were spotted on an internal test server. This isn't an indication One UI 8 will release any time soon, but it does indicate development has started at least two months earlier than expected.

One UI 7 has been in beta testing in December and has come to only a select few devices so far. Samsung did confirm the stable build of One UI 7 should launch in April and that more devices are being added to the beta program, including foldable phones. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 have begun to receive the update, too, allowing them to finally join the Android 15 party.
