I drink coffee, black. The last thing I need is a ton of sugar. I'm cranked up enough as it is.

I avoided caffiene until recently, as drinking it regularly gave me headaches. I have recently improved my diet and lost weight, and am drinking it again, with no ill effects. In the past I have also tried ginseng tablets to help energise me - I ended up jittery and unable to get to sleep - stopped taking them and it took a couple of weeks to get back to normal. What do they put in energy drinks apart from caffiene?

 

I've never had one but i'm not a big fan of the concept in general. I'm biased because I used to work with a lot of guys that drank them and now several of my employees drink them and they always seem to be the laziest people with the least energy. To me energy is more of a mental thing than a physical thing in most cases.

I think people my age don't understand that if you drink energy drinks but eat garbage you won't have energy. During the 10 month busy season for me I work atleast 14 hours a day, 7 days a week without drinking any form of caffeine and I feel fine. I have the stress of a small business on me and still go wrestle at the gym atleast 3 times a week in the evenings.

In conclusion, eat a little lettuce kids, don't drink so much booze and you'll be fine.

 

I rarely have energy drinks, just so when I do, they seriously hit me. I usually have a bottle of Nos and a redbull when I need a jump

I have a Red Bull every now and then, when I really need a wake up. I can sip on a small one for hours.
The green AMP Mt Dew is soooo delicious. It used to be really extra strength but lately it just seems like soda instead of energy.

What really shocked me was that kid beauty paegant show, amoung all the other things they're forcing their children to do, one of the moms would give her little like 7 yr old daughter 5 cans in 1 day. :O Her heart is going to essplode one of these days!

Some of those kids have to start getting ready at like 5am and they don't get done til like 6 or 7pm-- they get tired and cranky!

Red Bull, a small red one here, and some Canadian versions. I generally have one, perhaps two in a day. I don't have them every day, and haven't had one for a few months. If the caffeine is from natural sources it has been found to be ok(acc'dg to Can. govt). I suspect some on this forum have given in to the hysteria on the American news about this. This is the alcohol and caffeine version, I believe. So, they are `all bad'.

I love the taste of Monster, BUT,

my cardiologist would kill me. I went through a period in my life when I was diagnosed with a sleep disorder. I used to be able to fall asleep standing up, or eating, or talking on the phone, or driving.

The driving thing did it. I could make it to work and back, about a twenty minute drive, without a problem. But driving late at night was a dumb idea. I often had to stop along the side of the road and jog in place for about five minutes to wake me up enough to finish my journey.

I finally fell asleep at the wheel and knocked down a neighbor's mailbox. Off to the doctor I went. He checked me into a sleep disorder testing clinic. Weird experience. I came out of there with a diagnosis of "ideopathic hypersomnia", which means "you're way too sleepy and we don't have a fucking clue as to why". I also got a prescription for amphetamines, which I took for years.

Now that I'm older, I don't have trouble staying awake for as long as I need to on a typical day, without the aid of any drugs, including caffeine. I still may sip an energy drink as I drive when I make a long trip.

Some people do seem to become almost addicted to the buzz, and I've seen a few get themselves really wired when they drink too many. That's not pretty.

 

I do not drink much caffeine at all, so if I drink an entire can of energy drink, I will still shake from it 18-20 hours later. Once in a great while I will split a can with someone, but I usually mix mine with vodka.

I do enjoy mixing a 5 hour energy with Bombay Sapphire, though. That has never seemed to bother me in any negative way.

 

I really don't think I have to apologize or defend myself for a decision not to allow my children to drink stimulants, just because they seem to be popular these days.

 

Wafe, some folks do not need to have stimulants that come from can, the marketing the various product lines tout the quick fix. This is a scheme that exploits those who want and expect instant gratification. Yet another chemical solution to a non-problem.
