The iPhone 17 Pro Max might get a standard Dynamic Island after all

In yet another contradicting leak, supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the Dynamic Island in the iPhone 17 Pro series to remain essentially the same as the one in the iPhone 16. Some of the first leaks about this year’s iPhone suggested Apple might shrink the size of the Dynamic Island. This new rumor indicates the opposite, but it doesn’t necessarily mean Jeff Pu was wrong in his initial theory. Apple could have changed course due to a variety of factors, including an uncertain economic climate and changing global regulations.

The Dynamic Island has always been something of a contentious topic. Some fans love it, but others believe it takes up unnecessary space that would better be spent on the screen. Since its initial launch with the iPhone 14 Pro, the Dynamic Island has remained mostly untouched. Over the years, the rumor mill has stoked discussion over the feature, but it seems that it’s here to stay, at least for another generation.

I expect the Dynamic Island size to remain largely unchanged across the 2H25 iPhone 17 series

At this stage, there is still a lot we don’t know about the iPhone 17, but here are a few things we do know. It will most likely release this year around September and could start at $799 for the base model, but go as high as $1,299 for the Pro Max. Apple might also return to the curved edge design, according to other rumors.

Of course, all of this information is just hearsay. None of it has been proven or come from an official source, so take it all with a grain of salt. Any given detail could change before the iPhone 17 hits shelves.

iPhone 17 might finally fix Apple’s stingy ways with display upgrades
The Apple iPhone 16 Plus's home screen.

Social media is currently flooded with all kinds of rumors and concept renders purportedly depicting the upcoming iPhone 17 series. A few reliable insiders have also backed the claims of a fresh design. However, there’s another upgrade situation that will matter to users on a day-to-day basis.
According to Bloomberg, the baseline iPhone 17 model could finally get a high refresh rate aka ProMotion display. “The device is likely to get some small enhancements to its rear camera, as well as a ProMotion display, which allows for smoother scrolling and animation,” says the report.
If you’ve been following the competing Android ecosystem, high refresh rate screens are no longer a talking point. Even budget phones that cost as little as $200 will serve you a 90Hz or 120Hz panel. In the Apple ecosystem, you will have to spend at least a thousand dollars to experience that perk on an iPhone, or an iPad.

We're still several months away from the launch of Apple's next iPhones, with the devices not expected to arrive until sometime in the second half of the year, typically September if previous patterns are followed. That hasn't stopped the rumours surrounding the unannounced devices however, with the latest coming from a leaker that also revealed an apparent third-party case for the iPhone 17 Air this week.

Sonny Dickson has shared an image on X, which was picked up by Macrumors, showing a selection of what he claims are dummy models for the iPhone 17 series. Alongside the image, Dickson said: "Here's another look at some iPhone 17 dummies, notice on the Pro models where the glass will change."
