It sure looks like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 won’t have a Snapdragon chip

The biggest news about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable continues to be its likely chipset. Once again, there’s a rumor that says the company is ditching Qualcomm and instead using an in-house Exynos chip on the new phone, which is expected to launch sometime next summer.

According to The Elec, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be equipped with a Samsung Exynos 2500 chip. Historically, every Galaxy Z Flip model has utilized a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. This information is consistent with earlier news from this month. Like the earlier news, this information is said to come from a high-ranking official at Samsung.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S25 series next month, including the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra models. These devices are likely to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. In previous years, the chip in these phones was also found on the latest Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold models. However, the carryover is expected only with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in 2025.

It’s unknown just how powerful the Samsung Exynos 2500 chip will be. However, it’s expected to be manufactured using a 3nm process — just like the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Besides a new chipset, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will likely have a larger display than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The new model is anticipated to feature a 6.85-inch foldable display and a 4-inch cover display. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a 6.7-inch primary and 3.4-inch cover display.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 should be announced towards the middle of 2025.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is just around the corner. We expect it to be announced on January 22 at the Galaxy Unpacked event that's expected to be happening that day, and a new leak further corroborates that information while adding in a few more tidbits we didn't know before.

Tipster Jukanlosreve shared the news on X, citing a "very reliable" source that confirmed the Galaxy S25 will officially be on sale in Korea (and presumably the U.S.) on February 7. In addition, the leaker says the Slim model will also be shown at the Unpacked event.

In its quest for thinner, lighter phones, Samsung is considering a new design for the iconic S-Pen. The next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be a bit thinner than the current model, with an S-Pen that more closely resembles an Apple Pencil. Such a change would come with some trade-offs: namely, that the S-Pen would require charging to function.

Most of Samsung's phones have what's called a digitizer — a thin layer of glass that translates touch input into something the phone understands. That digitizer takes up space, however, and a thinner option would allow phones to be even smaller. According to tipster Jukanlosreve, Samsung might do away with the digitizer on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in favor of the Active Electrostatic (AES) method.

Significant changes may be on the horizon for Samsung’s upcoming foldable handsets next year. Once again, we’re hearing that the company intends to use in-house chips for two foldable devices set to launch in 2025. If this is accurate, it would be groundbreaking news.

Since their initial model launches, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip have included Qualcomm chips. For example, the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. If Samsung stuck with tradition, the 2025 Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 would include a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset — the chip we expect to see in Samsung’s Galaxy S25 lineup, which should be announced in the coming weeks.
