Nokia reveals the Lumia 925 at London event, and it’s coming to T-Mobile soon (Updated)

Nokia Lumia 925 AlternateCheck out our review of Nokia Lumia 925 smart phone.

At its highly anticipated launch event in London, Nokia has given us our first look at the new Lumia 925, it’s latest Windows Phone 8 device ready to take on the might of this year’s top-of-the-range Android smartphones. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop wasn’t present, leaving Jo Harlow, VP of Smart Devices, and Stefan Pannenbecker, the VP of Design at Nokia to take the stage.

After speaking briefly about the Lumia 928, coming to Verizon very soon, the pair revealed the focus of the show: the Lumia 925. As rumored, metal has been used in its design, but only in a band around the edge of the phone, leaving the rear covered in a polycarbonate plate. Like the Apple iPhone, this band contains the antenna, which Nokia promises will provide, “absolutely incredible performance.”

The Lumia 925’s big feature is its camera. While it has the same pixel count, 8.7-megapixels, as the Lumia 920, the lens has a new, advanced design. Sadly though, unlike the Lumia 928, the Lumia 925 doesn’t have a xenon flash, and sticks with a dual-LED flash instead. The optical image stabilization and 1080p video recording with OiS remains the same as the 920.

Much of the short press conference concentrated on the Smart Camera app, which will come pre-installed on the Lumia 925. Ideal for action photography, it captures ten images in quick succession, and as well as letting you select the best one, also lets you play around with the results.

It was demonstrated on stage by Jo Harlow, who switched her business attire for a basketball kit (yes, really) and was photographed dunking a basketball into a net. Using Smart Camera, the best shot could be selected and edited, including adding in effects such as motion blur. Although Smart Camera will start as a Lumia 925 exclusive, in the near future it’ll find its way onto other Lumia camera phones as part of a new update, named Nokia Lumia Amber.

Leaving aside the camera, the Lumia 925 has a 4.5-inch touchscreen with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, and is an AMOLED display covered in a curved Gorilla Glass 2 panel. Inside the phone is a 1.5GHz, dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 1GB of RAM, plus 16GB of internal storage space.

Wireless charging has been removed from the device itself, and like some of the more basic Lumia phones, the Lumia 925 needs to be fitted with a case to enable it. This, along with the aluminum band, means the phone now measures a sleek 8.5mm thick and weighs 139 grams. The feature list is completed with 4G LTE connectivity, NFC, and a 1.2-megapixel video call camera.

Nokia will start to release the Lumia 925 in June, when it will sell for 469 euros in Europe, which by today’s exchange rates makes it $615, or about £400. In the U.S. T-Mobile will be the exclusive carrier, while in the UK it’s Vodafone, where a 32GB version will be on sale. Exact prices will be confirmed soon, but according to a tweet from UK network O2, the Lumia 925 will go on sale with them on June 13.

Updated on 05/14/2013 at 11:10am by Andy: Three major UK networks have confirmed they will be selling the Lumia 925. Vodafone will be exclusively stocking the 32GB version, and has said the phone will operate on its 4G LTE network when it goes online later this year. O2 has bagged the white Lumia 925, which it will release on June 13 with pre-orders beginning May 30. Finally, Three UK has added it to its Coming Soon page.

Does the OnePlus 13 have a 120Hz refresh rate?
A person holding the OnePlus 13 showing the screen.

OnePlus has just launched its latest flagship, the OnePlus 13, alongside its budget sibling, the OnePlus 13R. As well as packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and both an IP68 and IP69 rating that allows you to use the phone in the shower, it looks like we can expect great things from the OnePlus 13's 6.82-inch screen, particularly when it comes to the refresh rate.
Does the OnePlus 13 have a 120Hz refresh rate?
The OnePlus 13's screen looks set to impress, with a 2K resolution and peak brightness of 4,500 nits. It's the refresh rate we're most excited about, however. The flagship phone's display will boast a variable refresh rate of between 1Hz to 120Hz. That means the phone adjusts its refresh rate to suit the content displayed on the screen, ensuring a smoother display and saving battery life.
Does the OnePlus 13R have a 120Hz refresh rate?
The OnePlus 13R may retail for only $600, but we can confirm that the successor to the OnePlus 12R will also pack a variable 1 to 120Hz refresh rate, just like its flagship sibling and predecessor. This time around, expect a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with 2,780 x 1,264 resolution and a peak brightness of 4,500 nits.
How higher refresh rates evolved and their benefits

Whether you're planning to pick up the OnePlus 13 or OnePlus 13R, or you have your eye on another 120Hz device, how much do you really know about the benefits of higher refresh rates and why you should shop for a device that offers them?

The Amazfit Active 2 was just announced, so the first model is on sale
A person running while wearing the Amazfit Active Smartwatch.

Investing in a smartwatch is one of the best ways to get on top of your daily, weekly, and long-term health and fitness goals. Big brands like Apple, Samsung, Google, and Garmin are the brains behind some of the top models on the market, but if you’re looking for a solid alternative, we recommend the Amazfit Active Smartwatch 35.9mm.

We also heard news at CES 2025 that we’ll be getting an Amazfit Active 2 reasonably soon, so it comes as no surprise that the O.G. model went on sale. Still, it’s one of our favorite smartwatch deals of the day, and it’s about time a company gave the Apple Watch a run for its money!

The Livall PikaBoost 2 turns any old bicycle into a powerful e-bike
Livall PikaBoost 2

E-bikes are great, but they're a lot more expensive than traditional bikes and often heavier, too. That's not to mention that they can require maintenance and suffer from technical issues. But what if you could turn your traditional bicycle into an e-bike? That's the idea behind the Livall PikaBoost, now in its second generation. It’s basically a small, motorized device that can attach to your bicycle to give it e-bike power.

I got a chance to check out the PikaBoost 2 on the show floor at CES 2025. Livall’s PR firm, WeBranding, flew me out to Las Vegas for CES 2025 to check out the PikaBoost 2, among its other brands’ devices, for myself — and I have to say, it seems to be a powerful yet inexpensive way to get the power of an e-bike without having to replace the bicycle you already have.
