Hot on the heels of its OnePlus X launch, OnePlus has brought its extended warranty program to the U.S. and Canada, so you have some options if you’re worried about your phone’s protection.
OnePlus released its warranty program, On-Guard by Simplesurance, in Europe on November 2, and this time it’s pairing up with Assurant Solutions to bring its coverage over to North America.
New OnePlus X and OnePlus 2 owners can pay a fee for On-Guard’s Extended Service Coverage (ESC) and Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) coverage. ESC provides replacement coverage for hardware failures due to manufacturer defects, and ADH, as the name implies, covers drops, liquid spills, and cracks.
Previously, if you wanted to repair your OnePlus device, you had to ship it back to China, but now that the company is pairing with a U.S. company to handle repairs, the turnaround for Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMA) and repairs should be much quicker.

The plans include On-Guard 12, as well as On-Guard Plus 18 and 24. The plans differ in their of the length of coverage and whether ADH is included.
Customers can only sign up for On-Guard after they purchase a new device, whether it’s a OnePlus X or a OnePlus 2, which is unfortunate for existing OnePlus device owners.
“We are not able to offer a grace period for second chance enrollment,” the company said in its blog post announcement. “However, we are working hard with Assurant to offer this service as soon as possible.”
So if you’re an existing OnePlus device owner looking to get an extended warranty, keep an eye out. If you’re in the market for a new device, remember, you need an invitation to buy a OnePlus phone.
