The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 may not get the chipset we were expecting

We’re at the time of year when rumors start to surface about next year’s Samsung devices. The latest one concerns the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip FE and Galaxy Z Flip 7. If true, it’s a significant development.

According to leaker @Jukanlosreve on X, the Galaxy Z Flip FE (Samsung’s upcoming budget foldable) is likely to use a Samsung Exynos 2400e chip, the same chip found in the recently introduced Galaxy S24 FE.

The biggest news, however, comes from the same leaker about the Galaxy Z Flip 7. It’s expected to be powered by an Exynos 2400 chip.

To provide some context, the current Galaxy Z Flip 6 utilizes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, also found in the Galaxy S24 series. Previously, it was believed that Samsung would use the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip for the 2025 Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, if we are to believe the latest rumor, that’s looking less likely.

Rumors about the first Galaxy Z Flip FE have been circulating for a while now. This “fan edition” model is expected to resemble the Galaxy Z Flip 6 but will feature a less advanced display, fewer storage options, and other cost-saving adjustments. As a result, we anticipate that the Galaxy Z Flip FE will be priced lower than the entry-level Galaxy Z Flip 6, which currently retails for nearly $1,100 in the U.S.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is anticipated to be Samsung’s flagship Z Flip model next year. It will likely feature camera updates and any design updates that Samsung intends to implement.

It will be an interesting strategy shift if Samsung transitions to Exynos for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip FE. We’ll know soon enough. The former is likely to be announced sometime next summer. The latter’s release date is slightly less certain, although a spring release is most likely.

Samsung has started the official rollout of the latest version of its One UI software for Galaxy smartphones, and there’s a very good chance you can try it out today. One UI 7 has been released as a beta version and is available for Samsung Galaxy S24 smartphones in the U.S., the U.K., India, Korea, Germany, and Poland starting today, December 5. To try it out, you must sign up to join the beta program, but what features will you get if you do?
New design and simplified home screen
Samsung says One UI 7 has a “significant new look” and a “simple, impactful, and emotive design” that includes less clutter on the screen, new One UI widgets, and greater customization features to give you finer control over the look and function of the software. The home screen and the lock screen have been simplified, too.
Now Bar
The most intriguing new design feature in One UI 7 is the Now Bar. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait to try it out because it’s “set to be supported on upcoming Galaxy S series devices,” which means it’s probably not going to appear on the Galaxy S24 or earlier devices and won't be inside the beta version of the software you can try today.

The Now Bar is part of a new notification system that reduces the need to unlock your phone to view information or interact with notifications while also highlighting certain activities like music playback, the stopwatch, voice recording, and the AI Interpreter mode. Samsung claims the Now Bar will “transform the lock screen experience” and promises to support it with new features in the future. We may not get a look at the Now Bar until the Galaxy S25’s release, but it sounds a lot like Apple’s Dynamic Island and Live Activities features.

We may have been wrong about Apple’s first folding iPhone

Apple could unveil its first foldable iPhone in 2026. Until now, many believed that this phone would resemble the clamshell design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip rather than the larger Galaxy Z Fold.

However, Ross Young, an expert in the display industry, suggests that if Apple announces a foldable iPhone in two years, it will likely be more similar to the Galaxy Z Fold instead of the Galaxy Z Flip. On X, Young was asked, “So if Apple finally joins the party in 2026, will it be a Flip, a Fold, or both?” His answer was “Fold.”
