Last month, we first heard whispers of a potential trifold phone from Samsung. The leak came from a source with a reputable track record, but now another source corroborates the information and gives it even more credibility.

Leaker Yeux1122 posted on Naver, sort of the Google of South Korea, that Samsung has the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Fold 7 FE,  and a trifold Fold 7 variant slated for release in 2025. The Fold 7 and Fold 7 FE are expected to launch at the same time, but there’s no firm timeline for the rumored trifold.

Unfortunately, that’s all the information the leak included. We have no hints at the design or the specs of the phone, but we can take a look at similar devices on the market. The Huawei Mate XT has a design we can only assume is similar to the phone Samsung has in development, giving it a 6.4-inch screen when fully folded, a 7.9-inch screen with two panels open, or a 10.2-inch screen when all three are unfolded.

Compared to the 7.6-inch screen the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers, that’s a significant size increase. Three panels gives folks the ability to customize their user experience, but it also just makes the phone far more versatile overall. Want a more narrow, portrait display for reading? Not a problem. Need every inch of screen space to catch up on the latest episodes of Only Murders in the Building? Open it all the way.

There’s a point where a larger screen yields diminishing returns, especially when it’s touch-based. I wouldn’t want to try to navigate around my TV by touch input, but as long as Samsung’s foldable remains around the 10-inch mark, it shouldn’t be too unwieldy to hold and use. There’s enormous potential with a device like this, and we can’t wait to keep learning about it.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra might serve camera tricks worth a long wait
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra's camera.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra is one of the most capable smartphone cameras out there, as long as your search is limited to the US shores. It’s a terrific performer, but the pace of camera innovation has somewhat slowed down, while the likes of Xiaomi 15 Ultra have truly lifted the game. Things might finally turn around for Samsung next year.
According to a fresh leak, Samsung is eyeing a handful of notable upgrades for the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s imaging hardware. Instead of a 10-megapixel short-range telephoto camera on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, its successor will reportedly shift to a larger 50-megapixel sensor.
Moreover, the optical zoom range might also get a lift, going from 3x to 3.5x zoom. Talking about zoom levels, the long-range periscope-style telephoto camera could also go from 5x to 8x optical zoom range, and a wider aperture to go with it. As usual, optical image stabilization will be available across the primary and zoom cameras.

The main camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to stick with a 200-megapixel unit, with an identical 1/1.3-inch sensor format and 0.6-micron pixel size. However, it could mark the return of an innovative aperture trick that Samsung introduced years ago.

Bringing back the variable aperture
Back in 2018, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S9 Plus with a novel camera trick. The main sensor on this one offered a variable aperture facility, allowing it to switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 range. The Galaxy S26 Ultra could bring back the variable aperture system, and in a more capable fashion.

Leaked render of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 showing its front and rear profiles.

You may be disappointed if you hoped that Samsung would enhance the charging speed for its future foldable devices. Recently leaked certifications confirm that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 will maintain the same wired charging speeds as their predecessors.

According to China’s 3C authority (via Android Headlines), which recently certified both handsets, both phones are expected to retain a charging speed of 25W and feature a dedicated Samsung EP-TA800 charger, which maxes out at 25W.
