Samsung unveils Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y bada OS smartphones

samsungNews first appeared about a new smartphone device from Samsung last week after information was spotted buried inside the Korean company’s own Android app made for the forthcoming IFA conference. And now the confirmation is here.

In a post late Monday on the company’s official global blog, not one but three new smartphones were announced – the Wave 3, the Wave M and the Wave Y.

All three devices will run on the company’s bada 2.0 platform, which “brings together a wide variety of new capabilities including multi-tasking, Wi-Fi Direct, voice recognition and Near Field Communication,” the post said. The phones will also be loaded with Samsung’s new instant messaging service, ChatON, which will work across all major mobile devices.

The cheaper phones could be a hit in emerging markets, and will sit alongside other (Android) offerings in the same field announced by Samsung last week.

Here are a few details about the new Wave phones:

Wave 3 – the most powerful of the three

– 125.9 × 64.2 × 9.9 mm, 122g

– 4” Super AMOLED display

– 1.4GHz processor

– 3GB memory plus microSD (up to 32GB)

– 5 MP camera

– 9.9mm brushed-metal case

Wave Y – the most basic model, for newcomers to the world of smartphones

– 110 × 58.2 × 12.3 mm, 102.4g

– 3.2” HVGA screen

– 832MHz processor

– 150MB plus 2GB inbox plus microSD (up to 32GB)

– 2 MP camera

Wave users will be able to fill their phones with apps from Samsung Apps. The store currently has about 13,000 apps available, which isn’t many when you consider Android market’s 100,000 apps and the Apple App Store’s 300,000.

The Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y will be on show next month in Berlin at the IFA, the world’s largest trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances. They’ll likely show up in stores in October.

You’re going to have to wait a while longer for Samsung’s first trifold phone
The Huawei Mate XT.

We already know quite a bit about Samsung's 2025 schedule. The company plans to launch the Samsung Galaxy S25 in January, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 later in the year. There have also been rumors of a trifold phone, and it seems like they might be more than rumors. Unfortunately, an insider says not to expect Samsung's first trifold until early 2026.

Ross Young commented on a post on X, stating that the suspected Galaxy trifold is more likely to launch in 2026. From a business perspective, the trifold gives Samsung an opportunity to draw in customers who want more real estate than anything in the current lineup offers.
