World’s thinnest Windows 8 tablet, the Samsung ATIV Tab 3, debuts in London

In case the steady stream of news didn’t tip you off, Samsung’s releasing tons of new devices today. One of the most interesting is the Samsung ATIV Tab 3, which the company claims is the world’s thinnest tablet at just 0.32 inches thick. This 10-inch tablet weighs a mere 1.21 pounds, and runs the full version of Windows 8.

This ultra portable tablet features a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768 resolution display, which isn’t as high resolution as the also just-released ATIV Q, but it’s enough for everyday applications. Powering the ATIV Tab 3 is an Intel Atom Z2760 processor partnered with 2GB of RAM and a 64GB flash memory hard drive. It’s rated for up to 10 hours of battery life, so it’ll keep going all day. There’s also a 720p HD camera onboard and ports for micro USB, micro HDMI, and a micro SD card.

Along with the full version of Windows 8, ATIV Tab 3 comes with Office Home & Student 2013 preinstalled. It also includes Samsung’s SideSync technology which allows users with a Samsung smartphone to respond to texts right from their computer, and easily edit photos and back up files right from their computer.

Lastly, the AVTI Tab 3 is compatible with Samsung’s improved S Pen that even works with Microsoft Office.

Pricing and availability hasn’t been announced yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we know.

Samsung’s new Smart Monitor M9 finally takes OLED beyond gaming

Ahead of CES 2025, Samsung has announced its first OLED monitor not explicitly targeted at PC gamers. The Smart Monitor M90SF has an OLED -- a first for these devices -- bringing the love from the Odyssey gaming line more toward the mainstream demographic. It's a big deal for those hoping to engage in HDR content, both in terms of creating it and consuming it.

It makes sense, too, as the Smart Monitor M9 is built to be an entertainment hub. Like previous models, such as the Smart Monitor M80B, the M9 doesn't require being connected to a PC to run content on it -- like a little television right on your desk. It has Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Game Hub, and pretty much every streaming app you could want -- along with a remote for convenient controls.

A 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor is a big deal. Samsung just announced its own version, and we'll likely see more at CES. Based on what Asus has told me, I'm one of only a few reviewers who've been gaming on one of these new monitors for the past week or so. I’m talking about the Asus ROG Swift PG27UCDM, and the sharpness it brings is incredible to play on.

But before I continue gushing -- a caveat.

Samsung blew me away with its 3D gaming monitor prototype last year — now, it’s a real product

Flash back almost exactly a year to the day. I was sitting in a half-built demo area playing on a Samsung prototype gaming monitor. The company had loaded up Lies of P -- one of my favorite games of last year -- and I was proceeding through a midgame Mad Clown Puppet mini-boss. It wasn't just standard gameplay, though. It was glasses-free 3D, and it worked well enough that I was able to play a game as difficult as Lies of P amid construction noise and blinding lights without breaking a sweat.

At CES 2025, Samsung is turning that prototype into a real product with the Odyssey 3D.
