A thriller about the end of a marriage, The Nest tells the story of a family living in the 1980s who move to the United Kingdom because the family’s patriarch is scheming to make money.

When his deal falls apart, though, he becomes increasingly desperate to prove that he can afford the lavish lifestyle he’s set up for his family, even as his wife and children deal with the fallout from his lies and go through crises of their own. Featuring brilliant performances from Carrie Coon and Jude Law, The Nest is brilliant.

You can watch The Nest on Netflix.

Woman of the Hour (2024)

Woman of the Hour | Official Teaser | Netflix

Based on a true story, Woman of the Hour chronicles the time a serial killer appeared on a dating game show and actually won. In cutting between the killer’s various victims and a central woman dealing with misogyny on The Dating Game, Woman of the Hour trains its focus on the victims, and has almost no interest in the killer or his motivations.

Director and star Anna Kendrick knows that Woman of the Hour is really about the ways in which a culture of patriarchy allowed a killer to brag about his victims for years without any real consequences.

The best Netflix original series right now
Robert De Niro in Zero Day.

There weren't a lot of new shows on Netflix in February. But between the final installment of Cobra Kai and the debut of Zero Day starring Robert De Niro, no one can accuse Netflix of taking the month off. Zero Day has already cemented itself among the most popular shows on Netflix. Having said that, it's also unlikely to return for a second season since it's largely self-contained.

Netflix is also still riding high from the second season of The Night Agent as well as the hit Western series, American Primeval. That's not a bad way to start 2025. You can find these series and the rest of the best Netflix original shows below.

Toma Ikuta as Sakata in Demon City.

February wasn't a particularly great month for original movies on Netflix. The Amy Schumer-led comedy Kinda Pregnant was just embarrassing and not worthy of being remembered. The rom-com La Dolce Villa isn't a masterpiece either, but at least it works on its own terms.
The only other film that we could add this month is Demon City, an action film from Japan. You may have seen this kind of revenge thriller many times before, but the staging of the action is very entertaining. That's what makes it worth watching at least once.
