We first meet Julie while she is in a relationship with Aksel (Anders Danielsen Lie). Julie soon has eyes for Elvind (Herbert Nordrum), a man who is already in a relationship with another woman. But Julie does whatever she wants, regardless of who she hurts in the process.

When it came out in theaters, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy may not have had an all-star cast. But Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, and Zooey Deschanel’s subsequent success make it worthy of finding a new audience. In this adaptation of Douglas Adams’ zany sci-fi comedy novels, Freeman portrays Arthur Dent, an unlikely choice to be the last human male alive. Arthur’s friend, Ford Prefect (Mos Def), saves Arthur’s life moments before the Earth is destroyed. From there, they go on an increasingly bizarre and hilarious adventure across the stars and meet an eclectic cast of characters including a paranoid and depressed robot named Marvin (Alan Rickman).

Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie), is one of the most vilified individuals in the history of the Olympic Games. Robbie finds the inner humanity of Tonya as she struggles with her overbearing mother, LaVona Golden (Allison Janney), and her abusive husband, Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan). Tonya claims that she had no involvement with the infamous attack on Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver). However, that’s contradicted by the story told by Jeff and his loser friend, Shawn Eckardt (Paul Walter Hauser). Regardless of the truth, it’s a fantastic showcase for Robbie’s comedic and dramatic chops.

Nyles (Andy Samberg) isn’t having the greatest day. At his friend’s wedding, the man finds his girlfriend cheating on him. Retreating into the desert with the drunken maid of honor, Sarah (Cristin Milioti), Nyles is pierced by a crossbow arrow. Reeling from the pain, he crawls to a strange aura inside a nearby cave. Sarah follows, only to discover that the brilliant lights are a mysterious vortex that traps those who enter in an endless time loop. As Nyles and Sarah are forced to relive the same November day over and over, the two form a bond that begins platonically but eventually becomes something more. An elevated time-travel comedy, Palm Springs is more than just a Groundhog Day homage, adding existentialist ponderings and R-rated hijinks to the time-loop flick formula.

Big Time Adolescence premiered at Sundance in 2019, where Hulu picked it up and rebranded it as a Hulu Original in 2020. Griffin Gluck stars as Mo, a teenager with an unusual best friend in this coming-of-age comedy. Mo has a promising future ahead of him, but he has one big problem: He worships his college-dropout, drug-dealing older best friend Zeke (Pete Davidson). While Mo’s hard-working dad tries to steer him onto the right path, he’s not the kind of guy to force his son to stop seeing his best friend, creating a precarious balancing act of maturity. Davidson gives a refreshingly clever performance in this comedy and has a great rapport with Gluck.

Sweeping the Academy Awards and giving director Bong Joon-ho some serious clout in Hollywood, this black comedy is almost universally liked by anyone who watches it. Set in South Korea, it tells the tale of a poor family who concocts a clever plan to work for a wealthy family, each by recommending one another for different jobs within the home, even though they aren’t the least bit qualified. The film took home four Oscars, including those for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film. If nothing else, it’s worth checking out just to see what all the fuss is about.

The best feel-good movies on Netflix right now
Stephan James runs as Jesse Owens in Race.

There probably isn't a certified doctor who would prescribe a feel-good movie to lift your spirits, but sometimes it really helps. Feel-good movies are a subgenre that ranges from comedies to dramas. The secret to their success is that the main characters overcome their anxieties, their personal roadblocks, and all other obstacles to achieve their goals. Who doesn't want to follow that example?

Netflix doesn't have a very robust selection of feel-good movies, but it does have some very good ones. As it happens, this month's new additions, Race and The World's Fastest Indian, are both true stories that share some common elements with each other. Neither film was made for Netflix, so they may not stick around for long. But for now, they have a prime place among the best feel-good movies on Netflix.

The best fantasy movies on Netflix right now
Kate Beckinsale and Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing.

Finding great fantasy movies on Netflix is a bit of a fantasy in and of itself. The king of the streamers neglects this category, and it also relies heavily on Universal Pictures' catalog to bail out its shortcomings. That's why it's The Scorpion King and Van Helsing's turn to be on this list while Conan the Barbarian waits for yet another Netflix return.

The Scorpion King and Van Helsing aren't bad movies, but fantasy fans deserve a better selection from Netflix than films that are two decades old. Even this month's third addition, The Covenant, is closing in on 20 years. Netflix has made some original fantasy movies of its own, but not lately. For the most part, the best fantasy movies on Netflix are pretty stagnant. But when something new arrives, we'll be here to add it to the list.
