As initially reported by The Wrap, Shankar has spent the time since Dredd hit theaters creating a seven-part miniseries centering on the “Dark Judges” — a group of powerful Judges akin to Judge Dredd who turned their back on the law and embraced a much darker path in the post-apocalyptic future. The miniseries is expected to debut online in October 2014.
No stranger to projects created outside the usual Hollywood framework, Shankar previously produced the Punisher: Dirty Laundry short film that had Thomas Jane reprising his role as Marvel’s brutal vigilante The Punisher, as well as 2013’s Venom: Truth In Journalism that cast Ryan Kwanten as Eddie Brock, the Spider-Man villain known as Venom. Shankar’s short films have come to be known as the “Bootleg Universe.”
On September 28, Shankar posted a “thank you” video to fans for all of their support for Dredd. You can watch that video, as well as the aforementioned short films (which are both extremely violent and intended for adult audiences, so consider this a WARNING) via Shankar’s YouTube channel.
