Welcome to the week of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 news!

First, we found out that David Bowie (RIP) was in talks to make a cameo in the film before his untimely passing, then we found on that Benicio del Toro likely won’t reprise as The Collector, and then yesterday, director James Gunn posted a photo of the completed script on his Facebook page and suggested that he’d be sending it through to the cast shortly.

You can check out Gunn’s post below and — though Bradley Cooper and Karen Gillan’s names are conspicuously untagged — ScreenCrush reports that the director has a simple explanation for the omission: They’re not on Facebook. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker, and Sean Gunn are all included and, though it was assumed that this group would be returning for the sequel, it looks like it’s now officially official.

In other casting news, The Hateful Eight star Kurt Russell is still in talks to play the role of Star-Lord’s father, while Pom Klementieff (Oldboy) has reportedly joined the cast, possibly as Mantis, mistress of the martial arts.

Getting back to Gunn’s post, it looks like this script has gone through several drafts in the past seven months, with white, blue, pink, and yellow revisions all leading up to the finished green draft. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the current iteration of the script is set in stone, as it will probably change quite a bit once it’s in the hands of the actors and actresses, and producers can see what works and what doesn’t. We’ve also got a long way to go before we see pictures, posters, trailers or anything that might give us a true picture of what this sequel might look like.

Either way, this at least brings us one step closer to the return of Peter Quill and his rag-tag band of anti-heroes.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is currently scheduled for a May 5, 2017, release.

Is there a post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?

When a certain type of movie ends, audiences know it's not time to leave the theaters just yet. It's now a ritual for audiences to linger after the end credits roll for superhero movies and even "regular" movies like John Wick: Chapter 4, as they know there will be one or two (or in some cases, more) "stingers" that tease about the endless sequels and cinematic universes that dominate the pop culture landscape. Marvel perfected the art of the end credits sequence in The Avengers, with the reveal of Thanos as the architect behind a grand scheme to collect all the Infinity Stones.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is certain to continue this tradition when it's released on May 4. The last film in James Gunn's trilogy, Vol. 3 has fans curious about what will happen to the beloved team in what appears to be their final adventure together. Does the film have any post-end credits scenes? And if so, what do they reveal about the future of the Guardians and the MCU? Find out by reading below!
How many post-credit scenes are there in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
There are two post-credit end scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The first one appears shortly after the main cast credits are shown. The second scene occurs after all of the credits have been displayed. Both are short and run approximately 90 seconds each.

Guardians of the Galaxy never needed the MCU to be successful
Star-Lord leads the Guardians of the Galaxy as they walk out of a spaceship in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Before James Gunn moves entirely to DC, he has one last ride to fulfill with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gunn will premiere Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 this week, finalizing the trilogy he began nearly 10 years ago with the unexpected box-office hit and critical darling Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn single-handedly raised one of Marvel's most obscure teams into the mainstream, turned Chris Pratt into a star -- for a while, anyway -- and launched the cosmic corner of the MCU with a healthy dose of humor and an overabundance of heart.

The Guardians movies are silly and funny, with several large-scale set pieces of flashy lights and boom-boom-pows meant to fulfill the MCU quota. But there's an emotional center to them -- it's not just a collection of characters in tight spandex jumping around, but a group of well-defined, three-dimensional figures relating to one another while saving the universe. In many ways, the Guardians trilogy is everything the MCU should be, to the point where it's not an overstatement to say these films would've succeeded with or without the Marvel connection -- if anything, the MCU needs them more than they need it.
