Okay, so that’s a bit misleading. This isn’t so much a deleted scene as a … re-imagined scene. Allow us to explain.
As reported by ScreenCrush, Ben Affleck appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night for the After The Oscars special and jokingly discussed a fictional scene from the movie with the late-night host, a scene that starred Kimmel himself. Unfortunately, according to Affleck, “the movie was a hair long” and the scene needed to be cut. Apparently, Kimmel was too good in his cameo, and producers were concerned that moviegoers would spend the rest of the film awaiting his return, rather than focusing on the rest of the action.
The mock scene (embedded above) is patterned after a scene in which Bruce Wayne (Affleck) and Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) are introduced at one of Lex Luthor’s parties, but was re-created from the ground up so that Kimmel could get in on the action. At first, the late-night host merely strolls by, as the superheroes’ civilian alter-egos are busy having an icy exchange, but he soon inserts himself into the conversation. Before long, he has loudly (and repeatedly) outed the two men as Batman and Superman respectively.
Eventually, both heroes have had enough and Cavill makes good on his threat to throw Kimmel off the planet. After hurtling through space as a fast as a speeding bullet, the host crashes headlong into Mars … where he meets Astronaut Mark Watney (AKA – Matt Damon).
Kimmel, of course, has a long-standing friendship with both Damon and Affleck and, throughout the years, the actors have been the subject of several of his gags. That said, this is definitely worth a watch for fans of the trio.
Either way, you’ll be able to catch the Kimmel-free version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in theaters starting March 25, 2016.
