Lady Gaga officially teams up with Bradley Cooper in ‘A Star Is Born’ remake

Every day, a remake is born.

OK, so that’s not how the saying goes, but it’s fairly accurate in modern-day Hollywood. That said, the 1937 classic A Star Is Born will soon be remade for the third time, and the filmmakers have secured a high-profile lead actress.

Lady Gaga has signed on to star opposite Bradley Cooper in the latest version of A Star Is Born after Warner Bros. execs fell in love with the pair’s chemistry during a screen test, reports Deadline. The film, which will also mark Cooper’s directorial debut, has been green-lit and will begin production in early 2017.

For the uninitiated, the original is the story of a jaded Hollywood has-been who meets a naive Hollywood starlet and overcomes his personal foibles to help her achieve her dreams. Apparently, this film will look to stick pretty close to that formula, and Lady Gaga’s old Hollywood-style glam may well be the right choice for a production looking to stir up some classic Tinseltown nostalgia.

This film has had a pretty wacky history, with Clint Eastwood once attached as a director and Beyonce set to star. Early this year, however, Queen Bey exited stage to the left, to the left, paving the way for Lady Gaga to step into the vacant role.

“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director,” said Greg Silverman, Warner Bros. president of creative development and worldwide production, according to Deadline. “We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home–Warner Bros.–and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born.”

35 years after its release, Joe Versus the Volcano remains one of the most underrated romantic comedies
Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano.

The connective tissue between the romantic comedies of the 1980s and 1990s, John Patrick Shanley’s severely underrated daffy rom-com Joe Versus the Volcano celebrates its thirty-fifth anniversary on March 9th, and is as watchable and moving today as it was when it was first released, to tepid reviews, in 1990.
Zany comedy from an acclaimed screenwriter

Shanley, an Off-Broadway playwright who made his breakthrough with the brilliant screenplay for Moonstruck, in 1987, is capable of works of extraordinary seriousness, like his 2005 Catholic sexual-abuse play Doubt: A Parable (also a 2008 film with Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, written and directed by Shanley). But Joe, his directorial debut, is as off-the-wall as they come, with a comic language uniquely its own.

Jon Bernthal promises that his Punisher special will not be ‘Punisher-lite’
Jon Bernthal stands as the Punisher and stares.

Jon Bernthal's return as The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again is just the first time we'll be seeing his character. Bernthal is set to headline a Punisher special for Disney+ in 2026, and in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he offered a sense of what the tone of that special will be.

“I care very deeply about Frank, I’m really grateful that I’m getting the opportunity to tell the story that I think the fans deserve. We’re giving it our all and we’re trying to tell a Frank Castle story that we’re going to turn our back on the audience — it’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be light, and I think it’s the version that this character deserves and I’m just beyond honored and grateful that we get the opportunity," he explained.
