What’s new on Showtime in March 2023

Showtime is one of the oldest and most respected cable networks around. Far from a mere rival to HBO, Showtime has aired many memorable shows and movies over the decades, including Homeland, Weeds, Ray Donovan, Shameless, Billions, and more. In recent years, it’s been home to such critically acclaimed series as Yellowjackets, starring Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, and Juliette Lewis, and Your Honor, starring Bryan Cranston and Hope Davis.

Even in the streaming era, Showtime, like its sister network Paramount+, continues to deliver hit after hit. With access to the massive Viacom library, the network airs such diverse programming as the Oscar-nominated sci-fi multiverse epic Everything Everywhere All at Once, the horror movie X, and the Tom Cruise classic Top Gun. The sheer amount of content can be overwhelming, which is why Digital Trends is here to highlight the network’s offering for each month.

The 50 best movies on Netflix right now (December 2024)
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in It Ends with Us.

Netflix's deal with Sony continues to pay dividends for the streamer, especially when box-office hits arrive just a few months after debuting in theaters. Case in point: the romantic drama It Ends with Us is now on top of the list of the most popular movies on Netflix. But if you're looking for a film that won't be on the list of the best Christmas movies on Netflix, then the action thriller Carry-On may be for you ... even though it takes place on Christmas Eve.

You may find other recent arrivals on Netflix to be enticing, including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 2010 action flick Faster and the AI-fueled horror film Afraid. The rest of the best movies on Netflix can be found below. Remember to check this list every Friday morning, when we update the lineup to give you the most enticing movie options available.

The best movies on Amazon Prime Video (December 2024)
Santa Claus stands next to Dwayne Johnson and they walk together.

Red One has come to Amazon Prime Video this week, less than a month after its theatrical debut. Prime Video can spin it as a treat for the holidays since it wouldn't make much sense to hold a Christmas action movie back until February. Regardless, the fast leap to streaming only underscores how poorly the film did at the box office. It's far from the best Christmas movie on Prime Video in terms of quality, and it's only on this list because it's the only place to stream it for free.

Surprisingly, Chris Evans is the link between both Red One and this week's other new addition, Knives Out. The once — and possibly future — Captain America has been pretty busy outside of the MCU. Knives Out made the list of the best Amazon Prime Video movies by merit. You can find the rest of our picks below.

The best mysteries on Netflix right now
Choi Min-sik in Oldboy.

Mysteries are so rare on Netflix that you'd think they were a dying breed. In this case, a classic film genre is dramatically underserved, and if we had to guess why, it probably comes down to Netflix's algorithm. The real enigma we want to be solved is why mystery movies aren't more popular on Netflix.

With not many fresh options to choose from, we're going to go with the classics. This month, we're adding the South Korean thriller Oldboy, as well as one of Alfred Hitchcock's all-time great films, Marnie. You can find those films and the rest of the best mysteries on Netflix below.
