Prison Break cast discusses getting the band back together

After four seasons and a (straight-to-video) movie, Prison Break was all locked up. That is, until Fox began resurrecting old TV shows. After the success of The X-Files’ return, Fox has a new 24 spinoff and a new shortened season of Prison Break ready for 2017. Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Robert Knepper, Sarah Wayne Callies, Robert Knepper and producers Vaun Wilmott and Michael Horowitz were at San Diego Comic Con to explain why the gang got back together.

It turns out Miller’s Michael Scofield isn’t dead (obviously), but he’s in prison — this time in the Middle East. He also has new tattoos (that were a lot easier to get put on every morning during the shoot this time), which serve a slightly different purpose in the latest update for the show.

Scheuring said during the panel that the new season’s structure was based on The Odyssey. But fans won’t have to worry about any labored storytelling — thanks to the abbreviated set-up Horowitz said this new Prison Break is “all killer, no filler.”

Fan favorite bad guy T-Bag (played by Knepper) is back, and he’s trying to be good. Sara (Callies) is a key part of the new season – having been surrounded by prisons in her other show, Colony, as well as The Walking Dead. But not all of the old characters will be returning, so the show creators have introduced some fresh faces to the cast for this season. While they weren’t at Comic Con, the producers said they’ll add something new for fans who watched the original show when it first aired – or binge-watched it on Netflix.

Prison Break returns in spring 2017, and it might not be the show’s swan song, either. If the ratings are good, don’t be surprised if Fox brings the crew back for more.

James Mangold didn’t want Walk Hard to stop him from making music biopics
Walk Hard The Dewey Cox Story.

Every time a new music biopic hits theaters, people make some sort of joke about how Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story should have killed the genre completely. Director James Mangold should take those comments more personally than most, given that the movie Walk Hard is most directly parodying his 2005 Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.

Instead of taking the suggestion to heart, though, Mangold has made another music biopic with A Complete Unknown. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mangold explained why he didn't want to let all the Walk Hard jokes deter him.
