Spotify celebrates Star Wars Day with soundtracks and audio books

In May 1977, the original Star Wars hit theaters and changed cinemas forever. And although the actual release date was May 25, 1977, fans have embraced May the Fourth as the annual Star Wars Day celebration (for obvious reasons). To celebrate this year’s Star Wars Day, Spotify has something special in mind for music fans and audio book connoisseurs.

Composer John Williams’ iconic Star Wars music from all nine of the main feature films is streaming under Spotify’s Best of Star Wars Playlist alongside some more recent additions to the musical canon. That includes Stephen Barton and Gordy Haab’s score for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the hit video sequel that just hit stores at the end of April. Kevin Kiner’s music from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch is also featured, as is Michael Giacchino’s powerful score from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Additionally, Spotify’s Playlist for The Mandalorian now has Joseph Shirley’s score from season 3 alongside Ludwig Göransson’s soundtracks for the first two seasons.

That’s a feast for the ears, but there is also a Star Wars audiobook shelf on Spotify with several novels on tap for the discerning listener. Some of the included titles are Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, Star Wars: Light of the Jedi, Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith, Shadow Hunter: Star Wars Legends, and Star Wars: Brotherhood.

Finally, Spotify has revealed that premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada will get a message from their AI DJ that welcomes them to this year’s Star Wars Day festivities, and invites them to revisit the galaxy far, far away.

Daisy Ridley’s solo Star Wars film has recruited the Bourne Ultimatum screenwriter

Star Wars: New Jedi Order was first announced almost two years ago, and now, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the project has a new screenwriter. George Nolfi, who is best known for writing the screenplays for The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean's 12, has been tapped to write the project, which is expected to be a film focused on Daisy Ridley's Rey from the sequel trilogy.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a documentary director, is set to make her narrative debut on the project, which is set 15 years after the events of the sequel trilogy and focuses on Rey as she trains a new cohort of young Jedi. Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were the project's initial writers, but that was before Obaid-Chinoy came on board. When Ridley was confirmed to be returning for the film, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was brought in to take a pass at the script.

Ryan Gosling in talks to join Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie

The galaxy is about to receive some Kenergy as Ryan Gosling eyes a role in the Star Wars universe.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Gosling is in negotiations to headline a Star Wars movie from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.
With most Star Wars projects, plot details are being heavily guarded. However, the movie will be a standalone story without any connection to the Skywalker Saga. Jonathan Tropper, who collaborated with Levy on 2014’s This Is Where I Leave You and 2022’s The Adam Project, is penning the script.
Gosling's involvement is major news for Lucasfilm. If Gosling signs on, Levy's movie will be the next Star Wars movie to enter production, with the potential to begin shooting this fall. Gosling's inclusion also means Star Wars will be Levy's next movie. Levy had been eyeing a reunion with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to make Boy Band for Paramount. Star Wars will take priority over Boy Band if Gosling signs on.
