New 'Suicide Squad' posters are an explosion of colors

We’ve reported extensively on the wild, roller-coaster ride that has been the production of Suicide Squad, and the film doesn’t seem like it’s ready to let us disembark just yet. After it underwent highly publicized reshoots to make it more fun, uncertainty abounded over what sort of tone it was trying to strike, but some new art may give us a better idea of what we’re in for when this thing actually hits theaters.

As reported by ScreenCrush, two new Suicide Squad posters dropped earlier this week, and no one can accuse them of being overly drab and dark. The first is essentially a multicolored hodgepodge of stickers in the shape of a mushroom cloud and features the film’s title, underscored by the words “Worst. Heroes. Ever.” The second looks like a bowl of limited edition Lucky Charms that you might find at, say, Hot Topic. It reads “They’re Magically Delicious.” Oops, scratch that. It reads,“We Need Them Bad.”

While both posters are undoubtedly fun, we can’t help but feel that both are bizarrely juvenile. That said, perhaps making the film more fun was code for making it more teen/tween friendly. After all — despite talk of how it was so dark that it needed an on-set therapist — it did just receive a PG-13 rating.

In any case, you can color us thoroughly confused at this point. Whether this film is a dark and dreary downer, a fun and lighthearted romp, or a muddled mix of both, we won’t be surprised.

Suicide Squad game reportedly delayed to 2023
Metropolis with a giant Braniac face in the sky.

Rocksteady's upcoming DC supervillains title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, has reportedly been delayed all the way to 2023.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the game's initial release window of 2022 is going to be missed. It's not clear why the game is being delayed, though Bloomberg's report cites people familiar with the game's development. The decision to delay the game seems to have been made by its publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and not its developer, Rocksteady. The publisher currently has other games slated to release this year, including Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Hogwarts Legacy.

The cast of "The Suicide Squad" standing in a forest.

Director James Gunn may be the busiest man in comic book movies and TV shows. After finishing The Suicide Squad, Gunn jumped to that film's HBO Max spinoff, Peacemaker, and he's now shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel.  But according to Gunn himself, he may have another HBO Max Suicide Squad spinoff in his future.

“We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe,” said Gunn during an interview with Deadline's Hero Nation podcast.

Jared Leto goes full vampire in vicious new Morbius preview
Morbius the Living Vampire on the ground in Morbius.

Early next year, Jared Leto is headlining Morbius, the next film in Sony Pictures' Spider-Man adjacent movie universe. And in a new Morbius preview scene, Leto's character, Dr. Michael Morbius, undergoes a startling transformation into a living vampire. As in the comics, Michael is desperately trying to cure his rare blood disease. Unfortunately, the cure may be far worse than the disease.

In the preview, Michael and his fiancée, Martine Bancroft, are prisoners on a ship and under heavy guard. Martine is also a doctor, but even she couldn't have foreseen that Michael's treatment would strip him of his humanity. Michael's transition from human to vampire looks extremely painful. But he has it easy compared to the guards after he unleashes his fangs and claws. Workman's comp probably can't cover those injuries.
