Venom has arrived on Netflix. Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy’s final entry as Eddie Brock, is now the number one movie on Netflix. Two more new additions round out the top three in Despicable Me 4 and Counterattack. 10. Trial by Fire (2019)
Trial by Fire is based on a complicated court case involving a father, fire, and the death of his children. In 1991, Cameron Todd Willingham (Jack O’Connell) witnessed his three daughters die in a house fire. Despite claiming innocence, Willingham is convicted of arson and sentenced to death. Several witnesses in the trial frame Willingham as a bad, violent person, which aids in his conviction.
As Willingham spends time on death row, he forms a friendship with playwright Elizabeth Gilbert (Laura Dern), who believes in his innocence. As Gilbert and Willingham’s new lawyer reinvestigate the case, they learn that several witnesses gave false testimonies and the prosecution manipulated evidence. Will these new findings be enough to save his life?
9. Ted 2 (2015)
Seth MacFarlane’s greatest contribution to society is Family Guy. Battling for the No. 2 spot is Ted, a talking teddy bear with a sailor’s mouth and an outrageous personality. The success of 2012’s Ted spawned the 2015 sequel Ted 2. Three years after the events of the first film, John (Mark Wahlberg) is recently divorced from Lori (Mila Kunis), while Ted (MacFarlane) marries Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth).
Ted’s marriage quickly becomes hostile, and the only way he believes it can be saved is to adopt a child. When Ted tries to adopt a child, the state of Massachusetts declares that he is property, not a person. With the help of a rookie lawyer (Amanda Seyfried), the best friends take Ted’s case to court to prove he’s a person.
8. Sicario (2015)
Denis Villeneuve tackles the drug war in the pulse-pounding thriller Sicario. FBI special agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) is a rising star for the Bureau. After a raid goes haywire, Kate is recruited to join a special joint task force run by the CIA official Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and his enigmatic partner turned government assassin Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro).
The mission is to flush out a top lieutenant in the Sonora Cartel hiding in the United States. The hope is to capture the lieutenant to get to the cartel’s leader. Kate quickly learns that this task force does not play by the rules. Graver and Gillick will do whatever it takes to control the drug trade, even if it toes the line of legality. Is Kate willing to sit back and follow orders, or will she try to do what’s right?
7. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
The speedy video game character is back in the sequel for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. After defeating Dr. Ivo Robotnik (Jim Carrey), Sonic (Ben Schwartz) now lives happily with Tom (James Marsden) and Maddie Wachowski (Tika Sumpter) in Green Hills. Sonic tries to become a vigilante, but it’s met with mixed results.
When the Wachowskis leave for a wedding in Hawaii, Sonic elects to stay home and watch the house. Much to his surprise, Sonic is attacked by Robotnik and his new ally, the echidna warrior known as Knuckles (Idris Elba). To defeat this new power duo, Sonic enlists the help of Miles “Tails” Prower (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), an anthropomorphic fox who can fly.
6. Watcher (2022)
Modern scream queen Maika Monroe stars in Watcher, a psychological thriller from Chloe Okuno in her feature directorial debut. The young actress Julia (Monroe) leaves the United States with her boyfriend Francis (Karl Glusman) for Bucharest. While Francis works in an office all day, Julia spends most of her time in an apartment. She suddenly notices a mysterious man watching her from across the street.
Julia starts to worry when she hears about “the Spider,” a serial killer who kills women. Julia worries that this man might be the Spider, but she has no evidence. To make matters worse, no one, including Francis, believes Julia’s concerns. Unfortunately for Julia, something drastic might have to happen for her to bring attention to her claims.
5. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
The iconic tabletop role-playing game finally gets a worthy feature film adaptation in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Chris Pine stars as Edgin the Bard, a thief who has been trying to steal a special tablet that will resurrect his wife. After serving time in prison, Edgin escapes and sets out to steal the relic and restore order to his life.
Edgin will need help with the heist, so he recruits a ragtag group of characters. This includes Holga the Barbarian (Michelle Rodriguez), Simon the Sorcerer (Justice Smith), Doric the Druid (Sophia Lillis), and Xenk the Paladin (Regé-Jean Page). The mission won’t be easy as the group battles nefarious forces, including an undead army.
4. To Catch a Killer (2023)
The obscure To Catch a Killer is now one of the most popular movies on Netflix. On New Year’s Eve, a sniper starts killing innocent people in Baltimore, Maryland. When the police identify the shooter’s location, the apartment explodes. With the killer on the loose, FBI Special Agent Lammark (Ben Mendelsohn) is tasked with spearheading the investigation.
Much to her surprise, Baltimore cop Eleanor Falco (Shailene Woodley) is recruited to join Lanmark’s task force with agent Jack McKenzie (Jovan Adepo). The trio races to find the shooter before his next kill, but this murderer has a few tricks up his sleeve to evade capture and remain a fugitive.
3. Counterattack (2025)
It’s an action-packed firefight in the Mexican thriller Counterattack. Captain Armando Guerrero (Luis Alberti) leads the Murciélagos, a special forces unit in the Mexican Army. Guerrero leads a small group of elite soldiers on their day off. When he notices two women being harassed by a group of men, Guerrero steps in to save the day.
Unbeknownst to Guerrero, these women witnessed a dark secret that makes them a target of the cartel. Guerrero and his team eventually discover a gravesite of cartel victims. The cartel can’t let these secrets go public, so the criminal organization targets Guerrero and his team. The cartel does not plan on letting the Murciélagos live, so Guerrero and his crew will need to fight their way to safety.
2. Despicable Me 4 (2024)
The popular Minions return in Despicable Me 4. After spending years as a villain, Gru (Steve Carell) is now a secret agent for the Undercover Anti-Villain League (AVL). While attending a class reunion, Gru runs into his old rival, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell). After learning Maxime enhanced himself with cockroach body parts, Gru had him arrested and sent to prison.
The incarceration does not last long after Maxime escapes prison and goes after Gru and his family. Forced into hiding, Gru and his family move to a safe house in a new town. Gru must devise a plan to stop Maxime from turning his son into a cockroach hybrid.
1. Venom: The Last Dance (2024)
Tom Hardy reprises his role as Eddie Brock for one final time in Venom: The Last Dance. Eddie and Venom are now on the run following their battle with Carnage. It’s a quick turnaround for Eddie and Venom, who must be ready to fight another symbiote.
The duo eventually learns that Knull, the creator of the symbiote, has sent other symbiotes to Earth to attack them. To escape his prison, Knull needs something from Eddie and Venom. The duo will have to make a decision that will affect their future. Like the title states, it’s time for the last dance.
