‘The Departed’ is getting rebooted as a TV series at Amazon

If a reboot was successful, why not reboot it again? The Departed, Martin Scorsese’s 2006 Oscar-winning film, is being adapted into a TV series at Amazon, reports Deadline. The film is a reboot itself, based on Infernal Affairs, a 2002 crime thriller directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak.

Like its predecessors, The Departed TV series will center on a police department trying to bring down a group of criminals by implanting a mole, only to have to contend with one in their midst as well. While Infernal Affairs was set in Hong Kong, The Departed film took place in Boston. The TV series will reportedly jump locations as well, this time to Chicago. There, the police department will be trying to bring down a cutthroat Latino gang while a double-crosser works against them.

The Departed was both critically and commercially successful, which wasn’t surprisingly considering its stellar cast; it starred the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg. Needless to say, the TV series will have a lot to live up to. The project looks promising, though, and Amazon landed it in what was reportedly a “competitive situation.”

Producers and executive producers from the film are onboard, including Graham King and Roy Lee, both of whom will executive produce alongside Jason Richman, Michael Connolly, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Sarah Esberg, Tripp Vinson, Doug Davison, and Gianni Nunnari. Meanwhile, the series is being produced by the production companies behind the movie as well, Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group, and Plan B, plus Amazon Studios, in association with Warner Bros. TV. Richman, the creator of the police procedural drama Detroit 1-8-7, also serves as writer.

No timeline for The Departed TV series’ release has been announced, but it will be interesting to see how the reboot turns out.

3 underrated shows on Amazon Prime Video you need to watch in March 2025
Two parents stand with their arms folded or on hips looking at two daughters in High School.

Amazon Prime Video has a wide selection of TV shows, but the list constantly changes. New shows, including Amazon Originals, are added while others are removed as licensing expires. But one thing remains constant: the selection is always expansive and exciting.
For now, there are three underrated shows on Amazon Prime Video you need to watch in March 2025, all of which just so happen to be Amazon Originals. One is new, one got fabulous reception but arguably didn't get as much attention as it deserved, and the other is returning soon with a new season.

High School (2022)
High School | Season 1 Trailer | Coming October 14
High School isn’t underrated because it hasn’t been well-received. In fact, the single-season comedy has a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes critics score and an equally impressive 94% audience score. But it’s one of those shows you probably never even heard of. Based on the memoir of the same name by Clea DuVall and Tegan and Sara Quin (yes, of the pop duo Tegan And Sara), it’s a lovely throwback to the grunge and rave-loving music and style culture of the ‘90s.
As the ladies (Railey and Seazynn Gilliland) navigate the everyday challenges of being teens, from identity to first loves, they also explore their deep passion for music. Rolling Stone and The New York Times called High School one of the best shows of 2022. It's strange why the series has been so underappreciated by mass audiences. High School is one of those shows that anyone who grew up in that era would appreciate, whether you like or even know of Tegan And Sara or not.

A League of Their Own (2022)
A League of Their Own - Official Trailer | Prime Video
A victim of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, A League of Their Own received positive reviews and was actually renewed for a four-episode second and final season. But it was scrapped, and viewers were left disappointed. Nonetheless, the first season of the comedy-drama, based on the 1992 movie of the same name, is worth checking out.
Set in 1943, it’s about a women’s professional baseball league and the ladies who pursue playing the typically male-dominated sport. At the heart are two women. Carson Shaw (Abbi Jacobson) decides to follow her dream of playing professional baseball while her husband is away at war. Meanwhile, Maxine (Chanté Adams), a Black woman who loves the sport, struggles to find a team willing to even let her try out. With plenty of heart and humor, it’s a shame A League of Their Own didn’t get the attention it deserved based on its overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike.

A man and boy walk up a hill in suits.

The premier awards show for movies remains the Oscars. The year 2025 marks the 97th edition of the Academy Awards. That's nearly 100 years of award-winning movies to watch, debate, and discuss. With the rise of streaming, many of these Oscar winners are now on streaming services.

For example, Oppenheimer is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Christopher Nolan's magnum opus still holds up nearly two years after its theatrical release. The best movies on Amazon Prime Video (March 2025)
Naomi Scott looks on in terror in a scene from Smile 2.

Amazon hasn't seen fit to share a full list of all of the movies coming to Prime Video in March, so it's a little harder to find the most notable new additions. But Smile 2 is an easy choice for this roundup, an effective horror movie that builds on its predecessor and serves as an excellent standalone story.
Coming in under the radar this week is a British rom-com called Picture This, which feels like a throwback to some of the '90s movies in that genre. The rest of the best movies on Amazon Prime can be found below, and the list is a lot lighter after last month's departures. But keep checking back as that changes. We update this list every Friday so you can get ready for the weekend with your top viewing options.
