The Killer trailer: John Woo remakes his own action classic for Peacock

Who better to tackle the remake of The Killer than the master of action himself, John Woo? Peacock released the first trailer for The Killer, Woo’s American remake of his 1989 groundbreaking action film of the same name.

At the center of The Killer is Fast X star Nathalie Emmanuel as Zee, a contract assassin known as the “Queen of the Dead.” After refusing to kill a blind woman (Diana Silvers) in a Parisian nightclub, Zee becomes the No. 1 target of every hit man in the area. Not only does she have to avoid the criminal underworld, but Zee must evade capture by an admirable police detective (Omar Sy).

“Never send boys to do a woman’s job,” Zee says in the trailer before unleashing her elite combat skills on anyone standing in the way.

The Killer also stars Sam Worthington, Aurélia Agel, Grégory Montel, Saïd Taghmaoui, Hugo Diego Garcia, Eric Cantona, and Tchéky Karyo.

Woo is one of the most prominent action filmmakers of all time, having been a leading voice in Hong Kong during the 1980s and 1990s with A Better TomorrowThe Killer, and Hard Boiled. Woo eventually broke through in Hollywood by helming Hard TargetBroken ArrowFace/Off, and Mission: Impossible 2In 2023, Woo directed Silent Night, his first American film since 2003’s Paycheck.

Woo produces and directs The Killer from a script written by Brian Helgeland, Josh Campbell, and Matt Stuecken. Helgeland won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for penning the script to 1997’s L.A. Confidential. Additional producers include Charles Roven, Alex Gartner, and Lori Tilkin deFelice.

The Killer streams exclusively on Peacock starting August 23, 2024.

Peacock is about to learn the meaning of "clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose." Per Deadline, Peacock has landed the Friday Night Lights reboot, beating out Netflix for the rights to a new series set against the backdrop of high school football.

The reboot hails from the original Friday Night Lights creative team of showrunner Jason Katims, director Peter Berg, and producer Brian Grazer. All three will executive produce the reboot alongside Imagine Entertainment's Kristen Zolner, with Katims serving as the showrunner. Universal Television will produce.

The Rage Virus has evolved in the first trailer for 28 Years Later, the long-awaited third film in the zombie apocalypse franchise created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland.

The terrifying footage is set to an eerie reading of Rudyard Kipling's poem Boots. The trailer highlights the beginning of the zombie virus wreaking havoc in the U.K. It then jumps to 10,228 days later, as a group of survivors lives in isolation on a heavily guarded island. One of those survivors is played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who heads to the mainland armed with a bow and arrow.

Aaron Pierre will join the new DC Universe as John Stewart in the upcoming TV series Lanterns, and in an interview with ComicBook, Pierre expressed his excitement for the project and promised to do his best to "serve and honor" the character.
“What I can tell you is that the team are just super, super excited to have this opportunity to bring this story to the people,” Pierre said. “And, so far as I’m concerned, I’m gonna do my very best to serve and honor and elevate in any way I can, John Stewart and the [Green Lantern] Corps. Hopefully, I serve that and it resonates with me.”
When describing his preparation to play John Stewart, Pierre said one thing: "Extensive."

Pierre is in the midst of a breakout year. In September, Pierre starred in Rebel Ridge, Jeremy Saulnier's critically acclaimed action film for Netflix. Rebel Ridge was the most popular movie on Netflix for three consecutive weeks. Also, Pierre will voice Mufasa in Barry Jenkins' animated Mufasa: The Lion King, which opens in theaters on December 20.
