Brace yourselves, cool cats and kittens: Tiger King season 2 is coming

One of Netflix’s most unexpected breakout hits was 2020’s Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, a true-crime documentary series with a colorful cast of characters who were almost too unbelievable to be real. With that kind of success, it’s no surprise Netflix couldn’t resist revisiting the show for another season. During the streaming service’s recent online preview event, Netflix confirmed Tiger King will get a second season later this year.

To celebrate the news, the streaming service released a teaser trailer that reintroduces some of the show’s most prominent figures, including Joe Maldonado-Passage, real name Joseph Schreibvogel, but better known as Joe Exotic. The former owner of the Greater Wynewood Exotic Animal Park is currently behind bars, but he clearly has no interest in staying silent about his rival, Carole Baskin.

Tiger King 2 | Official Date Announcement | Netflix

The first season of Tiger King was directed by Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, both of whom returned for the seven new episodes of season 2. Even Goode and Chaiklin were caught off guard by the response to the first season, which made Joe Exotic, Baskin, and their surrounding cast of questionable characters into unexpected celebrities. While Joe Exotic seems to have embraced his new status, Baskin remains upset over her portrayal on the show. Baskin shared her thoughts about the renewal with The Hollywood Reporter, and she didn’t hold back.

“I don’t know how they put out a Tiger King 2 when Joe Schreibvogel’s in jail and I’m refusing to be played again,” said Baskin. “Rebecca Chaiklin said she wanted to ‘clear the air’ about what they did to me in Tiger King. I told her to lose my number. There is no explanation for such a betrayal and false portrayal.”

“I know some people who have been involved in it and they were doing more filming, so I assumed at some point they would come out with a Tiger King 2,” added Baskin. “It took them five years to put together the first one, so I thought it would be a lot longer.”

Conversely, Jeff Lowe appears to be happy about the new, upcoming season. Lowe was the final owner of the Greater Wynewood Exotic Animal Park, and he remains under investigation by the Justice Department for his treatment of the big cats under his care. Lowe’s lawyer, Walter Mosley, indicated that he believes Tiger King 2 will vindicate his client.

“Jeff tells me to share with you to ‘watch Tiger King 2 for the real story, not the story made up by a corrupt DOJ,’ ” said Mosley via People Magazine.

Season 2 of Tiger King will debut Wednesday, November 17.

What will win, and what should win, at the Oscars this Sunday
Cynthia Erivo and Arianda Grande stand next to each other and stare in a still from the movie Wicked.

Film critics make for notoriously spotty Oscar soothsayers. We sometimes prognosticate with our hearts instead of our heads. We’re often too close to a year in movies to guess what a bunch of industry professionals might decide are its highlights. That said, almost nobody is all that good at predicting the Oscars, even people whose job it is to predict the Oscars. There are huge surprises every year, and whatever system or Nate Silver-like science you apply to the matter, we’re talking about the voting habits of 10,000 strangers with their own unique logic for filling out a ballot. It’s all just grasping at straws.
Last year made it easier on everybody. This year, there’s no Oppenheimer pulling in statuettes like a giant magnet. The field is wider. The frontrunners are fewer. And some of the major races, like Best Actor, Best Actress, and even Best Picture, are basically coin tosses. It’s one of the most competitive award seasons in years – in part because many of the films that looked like frontrunners have endured cycles of backlash and controversy. That’s bad news for the bloggers, but good news for anyone hoping for a little excitement on Oscar night.
Ahead of this Sunday’s Academy Awards, we’re making an earnest attempt to call the winners in 20 categories — all but the shorts, where your guesses truly are as good as ours. Take the predictions below with a grain of salt, because they’re really just educated guesses — conclusions drawn from a combination of history, precursor awards, and gut feeling. As for the preferences, for what we merely hope wins, we’re on firmer ground there. If there’s one thing film critics are good at, it’s endlessly spouting opinions, unsolicited and with undue confidence.

The Russo Brothers tease new Avengers movies: ‘We found a way into the story’
The Russo Brothers pose for a photo on the red carpet.

The Russo Brothers are coming home. Joe and Anthony Russo are set to direct two more Avengers movies: Doomsday and Secret Wars.
After Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers left Marvel to pursue other projects, including Netflix's upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Electric State. With their promotional tour almost ending, the Russos will begin production on Doomsday in the coming months. While speaking with Deadline, the Russos revealed their filming plans, which ended with a joke about not surviving the treacherous process.
“It’s all in London. We’re shooting them fairly back-to-back," Joe said on the red carpet of The Electric State premiere. "It’s a lot of work again. We may or may not survive. We’ll see."
All kidding aside, the Russos are excited to tell a new story in the MCU that will "challenge" viewers.
"We’re very excited about it," Joe continued. "We found a way into the story that we think is gonna be challenging for audiences. It’s challenging for us to execute. And it’s really exciting for us, it gets us out of bed to do it.”

Vanderbilt vs. Texas A&M: How to watch, results, and highlights
A gorup of basketball players stretch on the court.

The competition in the SEC remains the best in the NCAA. There is always a good game against potential tournament teams every night. One of Wednesday's top games features the Vanderbilt Commodores (18-9) hitting the road to play the No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies (20-7). Barring collapses from both teams, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M should be playing in March Madness.
The Commodores began the season with a dream start of 16-4. Since February 1, Vanderbilt is 2-5, with losses against Oklahoma, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Besides Oklahoma, those four teams are the best in the SEC. A&M also finds themselves in a rut, losing two straight, including Saturday's loss to Tennessee. The Aggies still have plenty of chances to improve their resume with games against Vanderbilt, Florida, and Auburn.

Can the Commodores pick up their first win in College Station since 2017? Find out how to watch the game between Vanderbilt and Texas A&M. Read our NCAA men's basketball March to the Madness guide for more coverage.
